ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
After School Movies gets kids out of the house to have fun making movies outdoors with other kids. Kids will collaborate with each other to write, direct, produce, and act in their own short films. Each 2-hour session will produce a complete short film involving all of the participants.
Wednesdays 4-6 PM
Location will change weekly within the Hamptons
Sessions capped at 6 kids
Covid safety protocols
During each 2-hour session, our guide will lead kids through a fun, interactive process to create a story together for a short film and then shoot all of the footage they need with smartphone cameras. After each session, our editor will edit the footage into a short film and send the finished product to all of the participants.
To reduce the risk of spreading Covid, every session will be completely outdoors. Kids' temperatures will be checked at the beginning of each session, and any kid with a fever will be sent home. Kids will be required to wear masks except when they are acting in a scene.
MEET OUR GUIDE
After School Movies is guided by award-winning filmmaker - and former schoolteacher and camp counselor - Rafael Friedan.
While growing up in New York City and Philadelphia, Rafael spent his summers as a camp counselor in the Hamptons, at Hayground Camp, East Hampton Sports Camp, and YMCA East Hampton Camp. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Rafael was a schoolteacher in North Philly before venturing out west to become a filmmaker. Having just returned to the Hamptons from Los Angeles, he founded After School Movies to serve all of the kids whose after school activities have been canceled due to the pandemic.
Rafael’s first feature film, which he directed, produced, and wrote, won Best Comedy Feature at both the New York City Independent Film Festival and the Twin Tiers International Film Festival. Since its release last year, it has been watched by over 200,000 people on Amazon Prime and was also featured on the Bestseller List on iTunes.
